After it seemed like the VIU ElderCollege program was over, the Mid Island Elder College is continuing offer to offer lifelong learning experiences for mature students.
The Mid Island Elder College started shortly after Vancouver Island University announced it would be ending its partnership after 30 years of working together. The new elder college program will continue to offer a range of courses for those 50 years old or older in easy-to-access environments without exams or grades.
This Fall is the mark of its first full semester with 60 different courses.
CHLY spoke with Robin Fisher, the president and board chair of the Mid Vancouver Island Elder College Society. The retired historian told CHLY that many people come to the elder college for the learning opportunities and also the social aspect it brings.
Fisher said in 2025, they are looking at making the program bigger and better.
