Next week, regional health advocacy group SOS Outaouais will be holding a demonstration in Gatineau to decry the disparity between health care funding in the region and the rest of the province. The event will take place on Wednesday October 30 at Espace Canevas (425 boulevard Saint-Joseph in Gatineau) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The group was formed back in June to advocate for improvements to the regional health care system, which has been plagued for years by short-staffing as well as underfunding from the provincial government.
The group’s spokesperson, Jean Pigeon, explained that the choice of date was intentional, as it will mark five years since CAQ Minister for the Outaouais, Mathieu Lacombe, recognized the region’s underfunding in a symbolic motion in the National Assembly.
