To help manage a projected $16,721.58 budget deficit, Lennox and Addington libraries will be reducing their monthly checkout limit, setting price caps on items, and implementing a daily budget cap for items loaned through their digital media service, Hoopla. Due to rising demand and the absence of spending controls, the library’s 2024 Hoopla spending has exceeded its allocated budget.
According to staff’s report, these changes can align the rising costs of Hoopla with the library’s budget. So far this year they’ve spent $43,594.86 on Hoopla, with an average monthly cost of $5,015.34. Ultimately, these measures are to help avoid future deficits while ensuring libraries can continue to provide clients with access to a wide range of resources.
According to staff, Similar strategies have already been successfully implemented by both the Belleville Public Library and the Kingston Public Library.
