Six Nations Tourism (SN Tourism) is considering the construction a new welcome centre at the Chiefswood National Historic Site.
SN Tourism asked Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) for a band council resolution during the Oct. 7 general finance meeting for support through Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and the Tourism Growth Fund. A resolution from Council is required to proceed with the application.
SN Tourism says if successful with the application, they’ll receive $250,000 to begin site inspections and preparations.
Jaquie Jamieson, tourism director says they estimate that the new building’s total project cost will at least $1.1 million to complete. She says the organization is currently exploring different funding options should the project move to the construction phase.
SNEC approved to give SN Tourism a band council resolution to move forward with its application to FedDev’s Tourism Growth Fund.
