Several candidates running for mayor of Halifax spent nearly two hours taking questions from residents at a meet-and-greet in Dartmouth on Wednesday.
The event was organized by The North Grove, a community hub in Dartmouth North, in an effort to boost voter engagement through weekly activities regarding Halifax’s upcoming municipal election on October 19.
Caralee McDaniel, a manager at the non-profit, said North Grove’s “Meet the Candidates” event was an opportunity for people who might not otherwise be consulted in the political process to raise their concerns with mayoral hopefuls.
CKDU spoke with McDaniel and two first-time candidates about the importance of voter engagement in the upcoming municipal election.
