Six Nations Elected Council is discussing the potential of having a crosswalk installed in front of J.C. Hill Elementary School to allow for safer access for Six Nations students attending both J.C. Hill and Jamieson Elementary Schools.
Coun. Alaina Vanevery says community members have voiced their concerns with students crossing the road unmonitored and having to “dodge traffic” in some cases.
The area located on Fourth Line Rd. in Ohsweken is not currently an official crossing, but students use the area due to the easy access to the two different schools. The location is near a signalized intersection at Chiefswood Rd. and Fourth Line Rd.
Coun. Hazel Johnson offered a temporary solution of having a crossing guard hired to monitor the location as council decides what its next steps are.
