New residents of Eastern Ontario who have not lived in a rural area before may be surprised to find out that hunting is allowed on much rural land.
Brennen Rolofs, who is a conservation officer with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, explains some of the rules, which he emphasizes hunters are responsible for educating themselves about, and how they affect people living near large open spaces in rural areas.
Signage or notice to prospective hunters, including telling them orally, is required if no hunting is allowed by a property owner. However, hunters and their dogs have numerous rules to follow whether on public or private land.
