Premier Andrew Furey says 93 percent of graduating nurses in the province have accepted employment here, making it a record year. He says that’s never been done in the province before and nurses are the heart and soul of the healthcare system. Furey says there has been a shift from nurses wanting full time jobs to a more flexible schedule lately. The Premier hasn’t changed his stance on hiring agency nurses from outside the province. He says no one wants to use agency nurses and the health authority is working on ways to reduce dependency on nurse agencies.
