A week after the violent attack on Montreal Street that left two dead and one critically injured, it has been announced that the Integrated Care Hub (ICH) closure has been extended.
Following the incident, Kingston Police conducted an investigation which necessitated the closure of both the ICH and part of Montreal St.. While the investigation is complete, the City and community agencies with the ICH announced an extension of the closure, stating that “…substantive operational changes need to be made to 661 Montreal St. to preserve the safety of the individuals accessing services, site staff, and the public.”
The City and ICH partners clarified that this is not a permanent closure, and the ICH will “reopen safely”, though no timeline has been provided.
In the meantime, ICH staff have continued to offer support and engage in street outreach. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
