After a year-long hiatus, the Pontiac Terry Fox Run is returning later this month with two new organizers at the helm.
Last year, the long-time local organizers John Petty and Rick Valin announced that they would be stepping back from running the event after more than 40 years and no one immediately took up the task in their place.
Jennifer Meilke, who co-organized this year’s event with Carolann Barton, explained that they had met taking part in a previous run. Meilke, herself a cancer survivor, said that she and Barton didn’t want such a long-standing tradition to die out.
Meilke said that just before the run there would be a small ceremony honouring Petty and Valin’s work over the years.
The run will take off from Pontiac High School at 2 p.m. on Sunday September 15, with registration starting at 1 p.m.
