Premier Andrew Furey says government is working closely with the Newfoundland Labrador Teachers’ (NLTA) Association to develop a policy around cell phone use in classrooms, one that teachers can enforce.
Provinces like Ontario and Manitoba have banned the use of cellphones in classrooms. NL currently has a policy that bans them in grades K-6.
NLTA President Trent Langdon has called for a policy designed so that teachers can enforce it. Furey says that work is ongoing, adding that they’re hearing good feedback from students, parents, and teachers.
