A quiet and organized group of environmental stewards have become vocal about what they perceive as lack of community engagement regarding a multi-use trail called Round The Mountain Trail opened in early August of this year.
The Bulkley Valley Stewardship Coalition have become vocal about their perceived lack of community engagement before this trail was constructed by the Smithers Mountain Bike Association (SMBA).
The Stewards’ concerns are the potential threats to the rare Red Waterfan Lichen which is impacted by sediment and habitat disruption, to nesting bird sites along the alpine, and to marmot colonies that have been divided by the switchback trail.
CICK News talked to Len Vanderstar, spokesperson on behalf of the BV Stewardship Coalition and Seth van Varseveld of the Smithers Mountain Bike Association.
