An abandoned property in downtown Liverpool destroyed by fire in the spring is finally being cleaned up.
Region of Queens Mayor Darlene Norman said crews began the work on Monday and are due to be finished by Friday.
The blaze at 89 Main St. leveled the historic and unoccupied Hendry house on May 13. Nobody was injured.
RCMP declared it suspicious and asked the public to come forward with any information. An RCMP spokesman told QCCR in July that officers closed the file because there was insufficient evidence to keep the investigation open.
The region declared the property dangerous and unsightly in June and ordered the owner to clean it up, or the region would do it at her expense. Subsequent testing found asbestos in the siding of the house, so the region hired a Dartmouth asbestos abatement company to do the work.
