This week, Six Nations Elected Council brought back one of its committees to handle communication about the territory’s ongoing litigation case with the Governments of Canada and Ontario for lands lost along the Grand River.
The Consultation and Accommodation Process (CAP) team is looking to ensure that all council departments and the Six Nations community are aware of information relating to the case, which began in 1995 and over the past two weeks has seen the Government of Canada present its expert testimonies before court.
In 2022, Six Nations eliminated its committees to “streamline” operations. The CAP committee is one of many that have since been re-established.
Six Nations Chief Sherri-Lynn Hill supported the move in order to keep up to date on the litigation case and so that council can provide political support where its needed.
