Two months into the Residents Matter Enforcement Initiative (RME), police report that stunt driving and other reckless behaviour on city roads is a problem, with 295 charges laid thus far in 2024.
The RME is an initiative that first began on June 21st to help clear the streets of stunt driving, speeding, reckless driving and loud noises generated by cars in the city. However, this initiative does not seem to have stopped drivers from reckless driving.
To hear more about this story, listen to the 95.7 ELMNT FM interview with the Ottawa Police where Constable Philip Kane, an officer part of the initiative, talks about the charges they’ve made throughout the year and how the RME is doing since its initial start date.
