Sports organizations in the Eastern Townships are working with various partners on the territory to develop more opportunities for physical activity under the umbrella of a provincially funded pilot project known as “Circonflexe – Prêt-pour-bouger.”
The mission of Circonflexe is to make sporting equipment, recreational equipment, and adapted equipment more accessible to the Quebec population, particularly by establishing points of service that provide quality and safe equipment free of charge.
Rita Ferreira, a consultant with the the Conseil Sport Loisir de l’Estrie (CSLE) responsible for the Circonflexe project in the Estrie, told CIDI that by sharing the same vision as Circonflexe, the CSLE’s goal with developing the project is to help address certain barriers faced by the most vulnerable populations when wanting to partake in physical activity.
She noted that these barriers include financial constraints, mobility issues, time constraints, and transportation.
