The Golden Plough Lodge was fined $36,000 by the provincial Ministry of Long-Term Care following three inspections this year, according to a report presented at the August meeting of Northumberland County council.
One of the infractions resulted in a $25,000 fine due to the County-operated long-term care facility in Cobourg not meeting Ontario government air conditioning requirements.
The Golden Plough received fifteen written notifications and nine compliance orders from May and June inspections, which administrator Alanna Clark addressed at County council. She says inspections are becoming more stringent in a heavily legislated sector with minimal latitude.
Only two of nine orders from the ministry resulted in administrative monetary penalties.
