A structural renovation of the Layer Cake Hall addition was approved by Loyalist Township council this week.
The economic growth and community development services department was authorized a transfer of $35,000 from the township’s capital reserve fund, as well as pre-budget approval for 2025 in the amount of $220,000.
According to the report, township facilities maintenance staff entered the crawlspace earlier this year and found that the floor joists and sill plates have been compromised by moisture, shifting, and concrete deterioration. The township is now faced with several options to fix the issue.
This area of the facility has been shut down to public and staff access in the meantime.
The hall was originally built in 1859, with an addition built upon the crawlspace foundation in 1981. The hall currently houses the Bath branch of the Lennox & Addington County Library, with activities taking place on the second floor.
