Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) have announced that they will support the Kawenní:io/Gaweni:yo Immersion School in its effort to build a new school facility.
SNEC made the announcement during the Aug. 13 general council meeting that council’s CEO Nathan Wright will now seek a loan worth $23 million to complete the construction of the new facility at a site located on Tuscarora Road.
Kawenní:io has been in operation since 1986 and currently operates out of a leased spaced on the second floor of the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. The school says it has been without a facility of it’s own for more than a decade.
Kawenní:io addressed the announcement of it’s Facebook page, and says the project will take two years to complete construction.
SNEC have not released details of the financial loan or construction timeline, but say a media release is scheduled to be released later this week.
