Francis Drouin, Liberal MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell since 2015, will not run in the next federal election.
Drouin said the job has been difficult for his family and he promised his wife he would not stay in politics for more than 12 years. Another mandate would break that promise. A point he makes is the problem of social media’s polarizing effect, especially on social discourse, and the importance of supporting news media and journalists.
His next job is uncertain and he plans to take the time before the next election to figure that out.
Drouin was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture in 2021, and has also been president of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie since 2020.
