Region of Queens Mayor Darlene Norman won’t be reoffering in October’s municipal election.
Norman ran for mayor for the first time in 2020, beating incumbent David Dagley and two other contenders Susan MacLeod and Brian Fralic (Note: MacLeod is a board member of QCCR).
Norman first entered municipal politics in 2000 when she was elected as a councillor for the first time. She represented the same area until 2016, when she lost to the district’s current Councillor Kevin Muise.
The former teacher, who now lives in Port Medway, told QCCR she decided not to run again because she was frustrated with having to defend council decisions that she may have disagreed with as mayor. She also said that she was tired of the online abuse she was subjected to over the past four years.
But despite that, she said she’s proud of council’s accomplishments. And she thanked voters for giving her the “privilege” to be mayor.
