Work is still underway at the Umicore electric vehicle battery production plant, according to the Mayor of Loyalist Township Jim Hegadorn, even though the plant’s company has reported industry and supply chain issues.
Umicore has informed the township this week that the permitting, processes, and previously approved site-work will continue on their Loyalist project. Hegadorn says the township still fully expects the project to be completed and operational.
Umicore also told the township they will have more information to review in the fall. According to Hegadorn, staff are to receive this report before Umicore’s end-of-year review is completed and released at the beginning of 2025.
Loyalist staff are currently in talks with Umicore’s local management team about the ongoing situation. Hegadorn insisted they will remain in contact throughout the entire process to ensure they’re ready to consistently move forward.
