The Sackville Memorial Hospital ambulatory care clinic is hosting a new, add-on nurse practitioner clinic two days per month, to help fill the primary care gap in the region.
Nurse practitioner Darla MacPherson and hospital manager Sarah Brown walk us through how and why primary care has found a temporary home at the hospital.
“Where we have the space, the resources, the staff, and the ability and obviously need and interest, then we are happy to offer that as long as we can,” says Brown.
“The need is bloodwork, refills, driver’s medicals, all these types of things that people… you don’t want them going to the ER and taking time away from urgent, real ER needs that are much more serious,” says MacPherson. That’s what led her to realize, “I could do this and be such a service to the town of Sackville.”
