Lennox and Addington County council has set a September 1st deadline for Loyalist Township to finalize or fully plan a community transportation project. The MTO has begun holding back funding to the county, and has given them a March 31, 2025 deadline.
The province had committed a total of $433,544.05 to the county to support the community transportation project, but this funding must be spent by the deadline.
Loyalist Township submitted a proposal last spring to expand transit to the Taylor Kidd Industrial Park. This proposal was approved by county council at their May 24, 2023 meeting. However, according to staff’s report, the Loyalist Township project has yet to launch, and there is no indication of progress being made. The MTO has now begun delaying funds to support the Loyalist Township project, and there is now risk that the funds may be reallocated by the province to other communities.
