Master Utility Division Inc. has been awarded the contract for replacing 3 culverts along Highway 41. Due to the depth of the culverts, the work will involve a week of full closures within two sections of the highway.
Out of the three bids received, Master Utility Division had the lowest tender at just over $650,000, while Earth-Crete Ontario’s was nearly $880,000, and Crain’s Construction’s was over $988,000.
According to their report, county staff and Jewell Engineering reviewed the submissions and agreed that Master Utility Division Inc. is a capable contractor. Staff anticipate they will complete the project to the satisfaction of the county.
The 2024 capital budget for roads and bridges includes $800,000 for the replacement work. The road and bridges reserve is currently at $6.8 million. Any remaining funds from the culvert replacement project are recommended to be added to this reserve.
