Six hundred workers at Montreal’s Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth Hotel took to the picket line between noon on Monday and Tuesday. The labour action comes after workers approved a five-day strike mandate earlier this month with 95 percent support.
The workers at the Queen Elizabeth are bargaining as part of a coalition of 3,500 workers in 30 hotel unions across the province, under the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN). This marks the first walkout as part of those negotiations.
Queen Elizabeth union vice-president François Houle joined CKUT by phone to discuss.
When reached for comment, a spokesperson from the hotel said they “continue to bargain in good faith with the aim of signing a collective agreement that is fair and reasonable for all.”
