Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) say that Chief, Sherri-Lyn Hill has delivered two letters to two of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) community council’s stating they are located on the traditional lands of the Six Nations territory.
Six Nations has strongly opposed the passing of Bill C- 53, which was introduced in 2023 and is set to move to third reading in the House of Commons.
Coun. Greg Frazer said in the July 12 Chief and Council Radio Show that SNEC strongly oppose 2 Métis community councils — Grand River Métis Council in Kitchener and the Clear Waters Métis Council in Brantford and their locations within the Haldimand Tract.
In an emailed statement to CJKS, the MNO say the organization does not support or make any claim to Métis land rights in Six Nation territory. The organization say they have communicated to SNEC they only administrative offices located in Kitchener and Brantford. But Six Nations leadership consider these communities to be in traditional Six Nations Territory.
