Woodland Cultural Centre (WCC) has received a $1 million dollar donation towards it’s capital campaign to build a new facility on the grounds of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School. The donation was received as a part of a July 5 Robbie Robertson Reflections Tribute Event.
Heather George, WCC executive director, says Seeing Red Media donated $50,000 at the event but also made a commitment to support WCC with an additional $1 million.
The Robbie Robertson tribute event featured family members of the late musician as well as local Six Nations artists performing and discussing the impact of Robertson’s musical talents.
George says to date WCC has raised around $1.4 million in it’s “Save the Evidence” campaign to build a new cultural centre. Additionally at last Friday’s event, a $15,000 donation was received from the Sobey’s Family Foundation, and another $7,000 from individuals donations.
