A by-election is coming up to fill in a new spot as a school trustee at Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools and the school is hosting an inflation night for those interested in running for the position.
This by-election is to fill a vacant spot on the board after trustee Charlene McKay stepped down at the end of May of this year.
The information night will take place online on July 9 starting at 6 p.m.
CHLY spoke with Mark Walsh, Secretary-Treasurer and Chief Electoral Officer for School District 68 Nanaimo Ladysmith, about the information night and what people should know about the trustee role.
He says the goal of the information night is to make sure everyone understands what the roles will look like if they do become elected. He explains to CHLY some of the misconceptions people may have about what a trustee can and cannot do in the role.
The general election is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14, with advance and special voting days leading up to the election throughout September.
