Nathan Rowbottom, teacher at Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP), was recently announced as a 2024 recipient of the Prime Minister’s award for teaching excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
Rowbottom discussed being honoured with the award and how he hopes the accomplishment can benefit the program in years to come in an interview with CJKS. He says that hopefully with the spotlight, more community members will look to participate in the STEM programs offered at the school.
Rowbottom also spoke on the challenges he’s experienced with the traditional teaching methods of STEM programs, methods he believes are flawed and need to be re-worked.
He’s also currently working on developing programs and apps that will allow for a more smooth transition for students looking to use technology in their learning of traditional native languages.
