Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) discussed the continued issue of contaminated soil being transported and dumped on the territory.
Council’s Built Environment and Climate Adaptation Committee gave a report to SNEC during Tuesday’s general council meeting, but it quickly transitioned into a discussion on contaminated soil and ways the organization can address it.
Council voiced frustrations on how the contaminated soil can impact the community’s air, waterways, and members.
Coun. Dayle Bomberry says the committee is working with the province of Ontario in developing solutions on this issue, and Six Nations Police have also been involved in some instances.
Councillors were stern in their remarks to the community and will continue to work on ways to address the issue of contaminated soil being brought into the Six Nations community.
