Cobourg Collegiate Institute’s Maria Linton will head to the university track and field level as a provincial high school champion.
Linton won the senior girls 3,000 metre run in 10 minutes 4.57 seconds earlier this month at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships in London. She also finished just off the podium with a fourth-place finish in the senior girls 1,500 metre race.
Linton will join Western Mustangs athletics this fall and study biochemistry and genetics at the London-based university.
This Sunday, Linton will compete in the U20 3,000 metre female race at the Canadian Track and Field championships in Montreal.
