Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) discussed issues that have stemmed from the organization’s decision to “streamline” it’s meetings in April surrounding a lack of communication between council and the community.
Councillors discussed these issues during the June 18 meeting. Coun. Helen Miller says she concerned about the community not being aware of the work being done by the 59th Elected Council due to closed or in-camera meetings.
Many councillors expressed support in Miller’s concerns and say the organization needs to find a way to be more transparent with the work being done, but other councilors believe more time is needed for the changes to take effect.
Council says a number of resolutions and recommendations have been recently approved to come before open council meetings in the near future.
No motion or resolution was voted on by council but they say work is being done to increase communication and to inform the community in a more timely manner.
