Hometown fans of Sarah Mitton are cheering on the Queens County Olympian as she gets ready to go for shot put gold in Paris in August.
To help them do that, the Region of Queens is organizing a video tribute for Mitton. The municipality is calling on people to record a video that’s 10 seconds or less. They’ll edit all the videos into one and send it to Mitton as she prepares for the Summer Olympics in a little more than a month.
To help promote the region’s project, Mayor Darlene Norman is planning her own video shoot on Saturday near her home in the village of Port Medway, in the lighthouse park at 9 a.m.
Norman says that Mitton, who won gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championship in Glasgow in March, is an inspiration to many.
