The 360 Degree Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic (360 NPLC) has released two reports highlighting the effectiveness of their Safer Supply Program (SSP) including reductions in overdoses and fentanyl use and health improvements.
The SSP, which has been operating since 2022, is “intended to prescribe safer alternatives to street-sourced fentanyl during the drug crisis, here in Peterborough,” says Kelly Pensom, 360 NPLC’s nurse practitioner lead and clinical director.
One report focuses on the participant experience and the other highlights the “improved healthcare outcomes for those enrolled.” Data for these two reports was collected from May 2022-January 2024. Findings of these reports indicated a reduction in fentanyl use and number of overdoses, as well as improvements to physical and mental health after 12 months in the program.
Though 360 NPLC considers the SSP a success, they are currently searching for alternative sources of funding to continue the program beyond its scheduled end date in March 2025.
