Current Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council of Awkesanse Abram Benedict was elected as the new Ontario Regional Chief for the Chiefs of Ontario (COO) today.
Five candidates were running for the role of Regional Chief, which were held under traditional election processes today: Abram Benedict, Rudy Turtle, Travis Boissoneau, Dean Sayers and Glen Hare. Benedict was named the new Regional Chief after the fourth ballot where he received 50 votes to 48 votes over Dean Sayers.
Benedict will make his opening remarks during tomorrow’s opening address at 8:30 a.m. for the third and final day of the Annual Chiefs Assembly.
