FERGUS – Centre Wellington is taking a different approach to the construction of a proposed operations centre in Fergus.
At Monday’s council meeting, council awarded a tender of $1.4 million dollars to Ball Construction for the design management of the project and construction management.
Engineering Technologist Brandon Buehler told council the hybrid approach is new and staff determined it was the most efficient to move the project forward. He explained the project will be done in two phases, allowing the budget for the project to be divided in two.
Phase one will include the design of the facility, construction estimate, and site preparation. Phase two will be the construction phase. The cost estimate for the construction is expected back at council in the fall.
The locum doctors who are staying at the house on the site will be allowed to stay for phase one but will have to relocate once construction begins.
