This Saturday, the Chemung Lake Lions Club and the East Peterborough Lions Club are hosting a local walk-a-thon in support of Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Leader Dogs for the Blind provides support for people who are blind or visually impaired, including training guide dogs. They are based in Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA, but they have supported nearly 1,000 clients in Canada since the organization’s inception in 1939.
CFFF spoke with John Morris, chair of the Chemung Lake District Lions Club and a client of Leader Dogs for 36 years. Morris will be walking on Saturday with his guide dog Casey.
CFFF requested a comment from Leader Dogs for the Blind but did not receive a reply before publication.
The walk is intended to raise funds for the organization and create awareness regarding leader dogs and visual impairment. The walk will take place in the parking lot of Ren’s Pets (821 Rye St.) and begin at 10:30 a.m.
