Jennifer Rice, the current NDP MLA for the riding of North Coast will not be seeking re-election in October. After 11 years in the Legislature she’s stepping back from politics to focus on her young family.
Although the decision to step back was bittersweet, Rice outlined some of her accomplishments since she was originally elected in 2013, most recently the passing of the Rising Tide Haida Title Lands Agreement.
“I feel like in 11 years of serving the last two have been my best as far as being able to deliver for my communities,” said MLA Rice. “Some would ask, ‘why leave now?’ But I don’t see myself not being in service anymore, for now I’m looking for a different way of being in service that allows me to just be home a little more often.”
