Changes made to the plan for the proposed Russell Township Recreation Centre have upset major hockey supporter Maurice Lemieux, owner of the Embrun Panthers Jr. B and C teams. It is unclear from the township’s website when the design change was made, but it surprised Lemieux, he says, and he’s called a meeting of the public on May 28 and has started a petition.
Lemieux says reductions in dressing rooms and spectator seating means Junior Level A, B and C hockey cannot be played in Russell Township. Russell Mayor Mike Tarnowski told CJRO reporter Rose Grzela this week that the reduced dressing rooms will fit junior teams.
