Local musicians gathered at St. Andrew’s Church in Picton on Sunday giving their time and talent at an open mic event as a fund raiser for Kate’s Rest.
Kate’s Rest, a property on Big Island in Prince Edward county, provides permanent housing and support for people who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. Founded in 2006 by retired pastor Brian Hart, it has housed dozens of people for more than twenty years, providing food, permanent supportive housing, community, transportation, educational opportunities, skills development and much more to those in need.
Funding comes from foundations, corporations, service clubs and individuals. The event raised $700.00.
CJPE News talked to Brian Hart, the founder of Kate’s Rest and also to one of the people whose life has been influenced by the organization.
