On Wednesday, Housing Minister France-Elaine Duranceau tabled Bill 65. The bill would ban certain types of evictions for the next three years and add new evictions protections for low-income seniors.
The bill has seen a mixed response. In a context of rising evictions, tenants’ groups say it’s a good first step, but one that won’t stop tenants being pushed out on fraudulent grounds.
The CORPIQ, Quebec’s main landlord association, saluted the bill’s intentions but said it won’t address a growing housing shortage.
