A visiting exhibit in Nanaimo this week allows visitors to step inside the stories of people impacted by hate in the province.
BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner is hosting the exhibit following the inquiry they did titled From Hate to Hope: Inquiry into Hate in the COVID-19 Pandemic. The inquiry found an increase in hate towards minorities and certain groups of people during the pandemic.
After the published report, the office unveiled four murals meant to bring people together to combat hate. The murals were placed in Vancouver, Fort St. John, Keremeos and Nanaimo.
The immersive exhibition showcases the voices heard during the inquiry with the art created for the murals.
Commissioner Kasari Govender spoke to CHLY about the inquiry and what she hopes the exhibit can do for communities.
