The Kitimat Museum and Archives held their Exhibit Opening reception Friday evening for “Haisla Artist: An Indigenous Art Exhibition.”
This is the first ever all-Haisla community art show for the Kitimat Museum; the goal of the exhibit is to showcase the talent and culture of the artists and to bring the community together, according to board chair Katherine Johnsen.
The exhibit features the artwork of 26 artists from the Haisla Nation, with a wide age range from 18-90, and includes a variety of art forms, from traditional form line to contemporary and fusion styles.
The planning and funding for the exhibit took several months and each artist is compensated for their participation according to Executive Director Louise Avery. The exhibit will run May 8-July 13.
