The Cortes Housing Society (CHS) has applied for BC Housing’s community housing funds three times over the past six years and was recently denied again.
The non-profit confirmed in an email April 29: “We did not get the grant from BC Housing to build out our 24 units on Rainbow Ridge. We are however pleased that they have awarded us over $100,000 to continue to progress the project.”
The project requires approximately $16 million to complete site infrastructure and the 24 homes.
CHS was also granted $140,000 from Community Works Gas Tax Funds by the Strathcona Regional District to aid the construction of a public access road to the new housing development.
The society is working with Folk University and the Cortes Island Community Foundation to host a housing forum over Zoom on May 18.
