Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) announced its political liaison council meeting will no longer be open to the public as council intends to “streamline” its meetings.
SNEC announced in a April 19 media release that they will rely on their political updates, political newsletters and radio reports to get information to the public. CJKS is one of the stations that will air the radio reports.
Previously, political liaison meetings addressed political advocacy issues like Bill C-53, the community’s fight to have its water issues addressed, and the upcoming litigation case on the Haldimand Tract.
Council acknowledged the news may be disappointing for some community members who relied on the meeting to stay informed but say they believe the decision is in the best interest of the community.
SNEC’s general council and general finance meetings will still be open to the public.
CJKS reached out for comment from SNEC but did not receive a response.
