An ongoing dispute between two Trent University student levy groups, Sadleir House and OPIRG Peterborough, prompted a recent “emergency community forum” to save OPIRG Peterborough programming, but the groups have now reached an agreement.
Sadleir House, a student and community centre established in 2004, provides subsidized rentals to student groups, including OPIRG Peterborough. Last year, Sadleir House notified OPIRG Peterborough that they will have to move offices within the building in order to make room for an accessible washroom.
OPIRG Peterborough is concerned that moving to an office with less storage space would “effectively kill the free market program” the group runs. After multiple spaces were offered, they have settled on a new office that would allow them to continue their programming.
Trent Radio spoke with staff from both Sadleir House and OPIRG Peterborough to learn about the events leading to this “emergency community forum,” and the agreement they have reached.
