All residents of Nelson are now eligible to receive a FoodCycler from the city as part of their pre-treated organics program, though supply is limited.
The program launched in the Fairview neighbourhood in October 2023 to help reduce organic waste entering landfills. Staff have distributed 709 FoodCyclers to residents in Fairview out of 928 eligible homes, leaving over 200 units available to the rest of the community.
Nelson’s Organics Coordinator Emily Mask spoke with CJLY about the success of the program, its next steps and whether or not Nelson is looking to fund the placement of FoodCyclers in additional homes.
If you live in Nelson and are interested in participating in the program, more information is available through their website.
