Nova Scotia teachers and educational specialists have voted 98 per cent in favour of strike action.
The Nova Scotia Teachers Union released the results Thursday evening. More than 10,000 NSTU members participated in the provincewide electronic vote.
NSTU president Ryan Lutes called the strike vote a “resounding wakeup call to government.”
Becky Druhan, Nova Scotia’s minister of education and early childhood development, said teachers voted without seeing the government’s offer. She called the vote a distraction and said she wanted to reassure parents that the vote has no impact on school operations.
Talks resume on Monday and Tuesday with a provincially appointed conciliator.
