Montrealers took time out of their Monday afternoon for a once-in-a-century event: a total solar eclipse. While Montreal’s last partial eclipse was in 2017, Monday’s was the first in which the total eclipse was visible since 1932.
Parks, rooftops and even city streets were home to impromptu viewing parties, and CKUT was on hand at two: first on McGill campus, which was giving out free eclipse glasses after the public libraries depleted their stocks, and then at Jeanne Mance park in the Plateau neighbourhood. Both places attracted thousands of people.
